THE BELIEVER is a man who can stand up and, with open eyes and not as subordinate, entrust himself to another man. Taking others on trust, letting yourself be touched and called, appealed to by others, allowing yourself to be taught by and being amenable to what comes to you, having the courage to expect something from another person - - that attitude is known as FAITH.

BELIEVING IS INTIMATELY RELATED TO GROWING AND MATURITY. JUST AS A MATURE MAN CAN, THROUGHOUT THE THE WHOLE OF HIS LIFE, GROW IN PEOPLE, IN TOGETHERNESS WITH THEM, AND CAN HAVE A HISTORY WITH OTHER PEOPLE. JUST AS HE CAN BECOME MORE AND MORE DEEPLY INVOLVED IN THE EVENT THAT WE CALL "HUMAN EXISTENCE," SOMETHING THAT IS MUCH GREATER THAN ANYTHING THAT I MYSELF OR I AT MY OWN RISK CAN EVER GRASP.
